Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy was developed by Pat Ogden, Ph.D. (references) in collaboration with some of the world’s leading psychotherapists and neuroscientists.
Over the past 35 years of my training and practice, I have studied many of the therapies available. Having trained with Dr. Ogden intensively, I have found sensorimotor psychotherapy to be the most effective process for transforming and releasing self-limiting beliefs, relational and physical trauma as well as other challenging experiences.
Sensorimotor psychotherapy integrates heart, mind and body, so deeply intertwined are they in determining how your experiences “live” within you. This process activates your own embodied wisdom in creating and energizing your transformation. I serve as a guide in this unfoidment and your own curiosity directs its flow.
This process reveals the unique ways you have organized your life experiences internally to protect yourself in the face of your challenges. When this organization no longer serves you, it nonetheless persists in the form of symptoms, self-limiting beliefs and other unconscious accommodations that drain your energy and zest for life.
You access your internal experience in a mindful state of dual awareness. You are present in our connection and dialogue while we explore your sense perceptions, images, movements, memories and thoughts, flowing spontaneously through your awareness. We weave and integrate these in new ways, resulting in release and transformation.
The results overtime include all of the effects of true transformation- relief, lightness, clarity, focus, energy and passion. Your greatest gift is a deepened knowledge and appreciation of Self. You may experience a state of “flow” that can be profound and permanent. Integration between your inner and outer worlds is possible.
Sensorimotor psychotherapy can blend seamlessly into EMDR, insight-oriented and cognitive- behavioral processes as we co-create transformation.
It is not a hypnotic technique and does not involve physical contact, unless appropriate and previously agreed upon. It complements other body-oriented healing practices like acupuncture, chiropractic, massage and energy work.

EMDR Therapy
What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing?
Certainly physics designed the bombs, biology the germ warfare, chemistry the nerve gas and so on, but it will be the unhealthy emotions of inpiduals that will trigger these horrors. These emotions can only be controlled, reshaped and rechannelled by technologies developed from successful inner science. Dalai Lama
EMDR Therapy (which is fully called “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing”) has been used by psychologists for over two decades and is effective for a broad range of mental health issues. These include anxiety, depression, phobias, addictions, obsessive thinking, as well as for the promotion of integration and well-being. (references) A visual, auditory or kinesthetic stimulus is presented in an alternating pattern to the left and right sides of your sensory awareness. This provides bilateral stimulation of the brain, producing a pattern similar to REM sleep. However, you are fully conscious and able to stop the process at any time.
We communicate throughout to establish comfort and connection, as well as to guide the process. Your state of internal attunement during EMDR encourages awareness of new connections among memories, emotions and sensory experience. Processing these results in developing internal resources, eliminating symptoms, releasing trauma and deepening self awareness. It can be utilized effectively for any issue you would like to address. I often integrate EMDR therapy with sensorimotor psychotherapy and use it to deepen the emotional benefits of any other work we are doing. Much has been written about the value of EMDR in psychological practice. If you would like to speak with me about how we might work together utilizing EMDR therapy or the myriad other approaches I offer for your overall well-being, please contact me. I offer a complimentary initial telephone consult.
